The Story of BEARPAW: In 2001, a young Tom Romeo was searching for a sign to help him choose between his two passions. While sitting on a special rock located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, a massive bear suddenly paused near him, stared directly at him, and then moved on without any confrontation. This magical experience inspired Tom to seek the meaning of this encounter.
Tom soon learned that a bear crossing is viewed by many as a sign of good luck, symbolizing strength and serving as a guide for those at an impasse. This chance meeting with the bear in Tahoe motivated Tom to start his own shoe company, BEARPAW, as an homage to the great animal.
The very first BEARPAW boot style, called EVA, was created shortly after. This style has evolved into the company's ELLE boot, which remains the most popular shoe in BEARPAW's collection. Both EVA and ELLE embodied the BEARPAW lifestyle with their warmth and effortless style.
